Metaphor Unmoored: A Participatory Exhibition Inspired by the Fan Collages of Poet Alice Notley FULL

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Limited Capacity full

Poetry and collage overlap in mysterious, interior ways. There’s something similar about the process of working, the space that opens in the mind, some alchemy created as metaphor unmoors the relationships between ideas and objects, creating surprising meaning.
In this drop-in workshop, participants will transform plain paper fans using words, images and decorative papers. Materials will be provided but feel free to bring your own if you like.
Notley says of her fans, “…each one was some sort of meditation on what I was working on as a poet, without my knowing what I was thinking about.”
Fan makers are invited to enter that rejuvenating meditative state to create a work that gives a nod to Notley as well as to PEM’s Asian collections. And as they move about the festival carrying their fans, participants will create a wandering exhibition.
